Our Pool

You look at the indoor thermometer and see that it is 29 degrees C, which translates to about 84 degrees F. You are sweating, the a/c is on, you decide that it is time to cool off, and about a minute later you are much cooler. We have been here for two months, and have been to the pool every day except two. Our pool is about 26 feet long and has a maximum depth of 8 feet. The deep end has a diving board that is about two feet off the water. 26 feet is the perfect length for swimming laps and races, and it makes it a nice challenge for underwater swimming.

The pool is a special kind called an infinity pool, a kind that I have not seen in the US, but is everywhere in Thailand. An infinity pool is special because the water runs over the edges into the filtering system, where as in regular pools the water flows into small boxes, and then into a filter system. In pools here, the water level is at the same level as the sides of the pool. The main pool is connected to the baby pool by two, small (no more than 4in) channels that are about a foot long. Our pool overall, has a very good system, and there are many advantages to it.

The outside of our pool, however, is a design that could be improved. There are tiles in a zigzag pattern all the way around the pool, evenly-spaced, with cement filling the gaps in between. When the tile gets wet, it is really easy to slip and fall.

All things considered, our pool is a very enjoyable way to cool off and get exercise. Enjoy the video of Micah pretending to be Superman.
