Gilligan's Boat Trip

The boys wanted to go on a fishing trip, so we got our own private boat with a captain! He was very nice, and spoke about as much English as we do Thai. (not much)
We were so thankful, there was shade when we got on the boat. We had snacks and lots of water - totally ready for the trip. What a beautiful place, we only saw one pole, so I thought we would take turns. But as soon as the rod was out, our captain pulled out empty plastic oil bottles with line wrapped around them. We had enough for us all to fish. The boys love catching fish! Elijah pulled up a shell that had a little octopus on it. (That is what he is holding in the picture.) After about 2 1/2 hours, we asked if he would drive around the island and let us see the sea cave on the far side, and the monkeys on the beach. He was happy to do this, and off we went!
We enjoyed the caves, and rounded the corner to try to see monkeys on the beach. The engine sputtered and died. There were no monkeys on the beach, due to a thai military training exercise going on. We knew there were a few people around on the island, but in due time over 100 came out of the brush onto the beach. The engine is still not starting... The driver said we should stay on the boat and he would swim to the island to get help. He said we could swim and fish. The big boys and I went for a refreshing and very enjoyable swim until Zeke started screaming. We got him and everyone else in the boat. He had gotten stung by a jellyfish across his toes. It took him a long time to calm down, but he finally got it together. We did get to see monkeys on the island away from the soldiers.
Soon 2 large carrier boats came in to view to pick up the soldiers. We got to hear them sing and then yell as they loaded the boats. Those boats headed back out to sea and our captain rode in a small boat to shore. Finally, he came out in another boat, that we all climbed into and headed back to shore. Our three hour trip turned into a five hour trip.
We were tired and hungry, but had an adventure. Thankfully the shade kept us from burning any more than we already were. We asked Aor,the cook at the Blue Beach Resort where we stayed, to put our fish and octopus in some soup for a late, late lunch. Our food went from the ocean to our soup and into our bellies the same day. Aah!
We really enjoyed this small family run resort. The food was delicious. What an amazing and relaxing place to stay. They helped us have a great break from the big city of Bangkok.
